"Jet-Man" flies across the English Channel - September 26, 2008. Yves Rossy of Switzerland is the first man ever to be able to fly with true wings. Backed by a gentle breeze, he crossed the English Channel on his homemade jet-propelled wings on Friday, September 26 in 13 minutes, averaging 200 kilometers (125 miles) per hour. In a final flourish, he did a figure eight as he came over England, although the wind blew him away from his planned landing spot. Using an earlier prototype, he had completed a 5-minute flight over the Swiss Alps in October 2006.

Subject: Final Champs Results - STGC 2008
Georgians,
We placed 9th at Champs this year which suggests that the management team has a good idea about what this team is capable of and that our projections are realistic. For this we are particularly proud and extremely grateful to those who have believed in our plans and without whose support to date these said plans would only have been pipe dreams.
As usual we took our fair share of blows today, but we had an equal number of people who stepped up and performed over and above expectations to ensure we achieved our goals despite these blows.
Chief among those people who stepped up today was Class II discus thrower Jason Harris who improved his personal best twice today by over two meters to score valuable points for us when we needed them most and which provided the margin of victory that propelled us from 10th to 9th place. Aldane Dunn, performing in his last Champs, gave the school a fitting parting gift when he put on a superb display of jumping to snare valuable points placing 6th in Class I high jump when many had all but written him off. As expected, Kimarki Absalom medalled in the Class II high jump after garnering points in the long jump the day before.
Another of our "baby heroes", Stephen Roxborough stepped in at a moment's notice and the team ran bravely to finish 6th and capture 5 crucial points. Our Class I team would also have to overcome a baton change mishap to fight gamely to secure 5th place in the Class I 4x100.
Again we were the victims of the inequalities of Champs when our 2 quartermilers were given lane eight in Class II and III when they went into the finals with 3rd and 4th fastest times. 1st year Class II Jermaine Fyffe battled to 6th in his race despite that, but Ahkiel's injury prevented him from doing likewise. New kid Kendon Guy also secured us a point in the Class II 800.
One of the reasons for the gutsy performance of the guys today was an emotionally charged and uplifting talk the team had this morning with Ryan Peralto Jnr. of St.G.C's team of the mid 70's. who took time out to visit with the team this morning. The boys really appreciated it and their response spoke volumes for itself. I wish to take this opportunity to say thanks to Yannie.
I must say that this year's placement was truly a team effort. Team effort in the truest sense of the word, from those on the track, those coaching and those selfless individuals who support our team.
Thanks to all for making our 2008 Champs a success, and I promise you.....the best is yet to come.

FLORIDA ALUMNI ADVANCE 1/2 MILLION J$ TO REPAIR HURRICANE DAMAGE TO ST. GEORGE'S
GEORGIAN IS NASA'S PAYLOAD MISSION MANAGER FOR INTERNATIONAL SPACE CROSSROADS
St. George's College Old Boy Glenn C. Chin is a NASA mission manager at the John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Florida, a position he has held since July 2000.
As Mission Manager in charge of a multi-disciplinary team of between 30 and 40 engineers at National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), he was given responsibility for 'Harmony', a module which, when finally installed at the International Space Station, will offer six additional docking ports for a consortium of 13 space-travelling nations, mainly from Europe. "It's like a six-entrance hallway that you can add rooms to," said Chin in describing the 31,500-pound, 24-foot long aluminum module recently. "It's actually the gateway to the international partners."

Dear Fellow Georgians,
We will be having a meeting on September 22, 2007 at 1:00 p.m.
The meeting will be held at the Global Choice Mortgage, Inc. office at 7777A Davie Road Extension, Suite 302, Davie, FL 33024.
There were several people at the last meeting who expressed interest in participating in the STGCOBAFL, and I would like to strongly encourage your and others' participation. This is a very important meeting which will provide you the opportunity to positively impact our organization's structure and the plans for our future activities.
While the STGCOBAFL has accomplished a lot since its inception under Dennis Barnett's leadership, we have been challenged in moving forward because we have been relying on only a few “committed” members to do all the work. Our ultimate goal is to help our Alma Mater in its various needs; for example, the repair costs for the damage from Hurricane Dean has been estimated to be about $8M Ja.
We need your help to organize and to carry out our various fun and fund-raising events throughout the year; this would be the perfect time to volunteer your service and give back to your Alma Mater. Please make a special effort to attend this meeting; you can make a difference.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
Best Regards,

Subject: St. George's College Old Boys Association Monsignor Gladstone Wilson Award Banquet
This year's function will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. Tickets are $4,000 JA.or $58 US each.
We are working hard to make the banquet a successful one. The long election campaign took a toll on our ticket sales and our ability to get anyone's attention. So we are now trying to work overtime to sell tickets.
We are inviting the new PM - Bruce Golding to hand out the awards to Senator Dwight Nelson and Dr. Louis Knight. Please spread the word.
We need the funds to continue to support the work of the school.

Dear All,
He had been ailing for quite a while and I was lucky to visit him the day before. He kept his wonderful sense of humor till the end and as you know was a great story teller of his experiences on and off the football field. St George's College has produced some phenomenal footballers and BIlly was among the best of those that played Manning Cup football for his Alma Mater in the 1940's and later for the Old Boys. A memorial service is being held tommorow Wednesday the 5th at Sts. Peter and Paul. Cremation follows.

Dear Friends,
Three STGC athletes participated in the 2007 National Junior and Senior Championships. They all performed outstandingly. It is interesting to note that unlike many other schools all our athletes have been on very limited training since Champs and Penns as we ensure that academics are first priority during this exam period. As a result the athletes are limited to twice weekly training until exams are over.
Despite this limited training, our ace Class II sprinter Khorey Spaulding ran a personal best 10.80 to place 5th in the Under 18 100m final. Our Class II high jumper, Kimarkey Absalom, jumped a season's best 2.0 meters for silver at the championships and booked himself a spot on the national team to the World Youth Championships in Ostrava. Finally, after shrugging off disappointing performances at Champs and Penns, discus thrower O'Dayne Richards won the event to become the National Under 20 Discus Champion in a new championship record of 53.08 meters. He will be on the National team to the Pan American Games in Brazil.
I know you are as proud as we are of our champions and this augurs well for our team for 2008.
A.M.D.G.
